Carisoprodol and muscle pain treatment
Whenever you are suffering from pain and it looks as if it is going to be a problem for some time, you should always get the advice of your primary healthcare provider. It is critically important to get a proper diagnosis and effective treatment. In the case of the pain associated with muscle injuries and diseases affecting the way in which your muscles work, you need to use a combination of drugs and other treatment to:
- treat the underlying cause of the pain:
- relieve the immediate muscle contractions or spasms;
- relieve the pain; and
- reduce the risk of the pain returning.
This may involves a combination of activity from surgery, through physical therapy, to you resting.
How does Carisoprodol help to relax muscles and relieve pain?
Carisoprodol is not designed to work directly on individual muscles in your body. There is no system currently available for enabling drugs to target one muscle as against the others. Rather, Carisoprodol is a sedative and, as such, it helps the whole body to relax, reduces any sense of stress or anxiety and, in larger dosages, encourages you to sleep yourself better. This tendency to make you drowsy slowly reduces as you build up tolerance for the drug. But, in the first few days, you should not drive or use any equipment that might be a danger to yourself or others.
What is physical therapy?
This is a profession in its own right and offers treatment to anyone with mobility problems. Working alongside doctors and with access to the results of all laboratory and imaging results, the therapist works with each patient to both improve muscle and joint function, and to offer counseling and advice designed to restore lost quality of life. The primary aim in every case is the full rehabilitation of the patient.
Because the different forms of treatment will vary quite significantly depending on the nature of the underlying problem and the age of the patient, physical therapists usually specialize. The work tends to fall into broad groupings:
- orthopedic works with fractures, sprains and other injuries, post-operative patients and those attending out-patient clinics with arthritis and similar problems;
- cardiac looks to build strength and stamina after a stroke or heart attack; and
- geriatric and neurological dealing with the problems of aging and loss of intellectual function.
Why is it important to rest?
Relaxation and sleep are essential to support the healing processes within the body. If you are not sleeping enough, the autoimmune system is damaged and your body will grow less resistant to diseases and disorders that may cause muscle pain. Since one of the reasons for failing to sleep properly may be the level of pain you feel, it is important to learn relaxation techniques. Although painkillers are useful in the short-term, controlling anxiety and stress the “natural” way gives better long-term results.
If the problem is caused by an injury, it is important to listen to your body. If it tells you to rest, i.e. you feel pain when you try to move around, you should not force the pace. Be wary if take a painkiller and use Carisoprodol. This may dull the pain, but these drugs have not cured the damage to the muscles. Do not be tempted to resume full physical activity before the healing is complete. Indeed, resuming your normal lifestyle may lead to further injuries that will take even long to heal.
